10 Clever Kitchen Organization & Storage Ideas

Whether you have a large or small kitchen, a dated or updated one, every kitchen looks and feels its best when everything has a place and you can easily use and replace the items in it. A highly remodeled kitchen looks even better when you go to sell your home if you can demonstrate the ample storage and organization options available. Use these ideas to keep all of your items exactly where you want them while also making use of every square inch.

  1. Start with an analysis of what is already working, like perhaps your drawer organizers for utensils and silverware. You can then notice cabinets that are always accidentally dropping an item out because they are so full or drawers that won’t close.
  2. Note any spaces where storage space is underused. Cabinets that are too tall need a shelf or two so that you can use all the space.
  3. Cabinets that are too deep benefit from a lazy susan spinning tray or a roll-out drawer that allows you to access even things that typically “live” in the far back of your cabinet.
  4. Evaluate items that have gathered dust and work to store them as high up or as low down as possible, allowing the most accessible cabinets and countertops to hold the items that get the most use.
  5. If areas like the space on top of the freezer or a particular part of the counter always tends to get cluttered, add shelving or storage boxes so that even a full space looks orderly and tidy.
  6. Pay some attention to the pantry: can you store goods that were otherwise left in rolled-up bags in airtight see-through containers. You’ll be able to tell when you’re running low and everything will be both more hygienic and tidy.
  7. If you have high ceilings, consider suspended organizers for pots and pans, which are both aesthetically pleasing and keep useful items at arm’s reach.
  8. Similarly, a drying rack installed above the sinks takes advantage of vertical space, keeps clean dishes at the ready, and avoids wasting countertop space on additional drying space.
  9. Speaking of which, make sure you’re doing the most you can with the precious countertop space you have available. If you have open shelving, for instance, are there any items currently stored in the “workspace” countertop areas that could move up or down and out of the way? Just a few adjustments
