Why Isn’t My Macbook Working? 6 Possible Reasons (and Solutions)

Did you know the average cost of a computer in 1971 was $750?

Ever since they were invented, computers have been an investment. Because computers, especially Macbooks, can set you back several hundred dollars, it’s important you take care of them.

If you’re asking, “why isn’t my MacBook working,” then you’ve come to the right place. Read on to get started.

1. Black Screen When Starting Your MacBook

One of the most common issues with MacBooks is startup issues. If you turned on your MacBook and the screen turns black or gray, it can be quite frustrating.

Before you start to worry about the possibility of replacing your MacBook, you can turn it on in safe mode. When you turn on your MacBook in safe mode, it means you let minimum software run while the computer runs a check of all of the disks. It allows the software a chance to repair itself.

By following these simple steps, you can run your computer in safe mode. Start by turning on your Mac and press and hold the Shift key. Keep holding until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

Release the Shift key as soon as you see the Apple logo and wait a few minutes. After the Apple logo disappears, you will be prompted to the login screen. When you log in on safe mode, your Mac will run a diagnosis on the hard disk.

If you wish to leave your MacBook on safe mode, you can restart your MacBook without holding the Shift key.

2. Unresponsive Apps

There’s nothing more frustrating than opening an app and finding it unresponsive. If you turn on an app and it freezes, you won’t be able to do anything else or even quit the app.

To fix an unresponsive app, you can try to force quit out of the app. The first thing you need to do before you force quit is click on the Apple icon found on the top left corner of the screen.

You can also try to click the Command-Option-Escape in order to force quit. You will need to highlight the unresponsive app and then click the Force Quit button.

3. Spinning Beach Ball

When it comes to our computers, we get really impatient when things slow down. If you notice the spinning ball more often, it’s a sign your computer is getting sluggish.
